Maintenance History

  • 20240321 – The RF distribution has been redone for the main Sutro Tower feed. Two CM-3418s that were cascaded have been replaced with a single Leviton 47693-16P. This should result in a marginal improvement in signal quality although the actual signal strength my appear diminished due to reduced amplification (the Leviton provides unity gain (+0 dB) at each output while the 3418s were +3.5dB per output). The reduced strength is most noticeable on RF 21 and RF 13 and reflects a weak signal at the antenna, although the signal quality (as evaluated by the demodulator) remains unchanged.
  • 20230324 – The site has gotten a facelift in preparation for the RF 7 lighthouse coming online. Please let us know if you run into any issues.
  • 20230314 – The recent storms have been wreaking havoc on the main antenna receiving from Sutro Tower and San Bruno Mountain. Impairments across multiple Sutro/San Bruno channels likely means we haven’t had a chance to re-orient the antenna and not a problem with the broadcasts.
  • 20210628 – A Winegard HD7000R has been added as the Loma Prieta feed, and RF 6 (ATSC 3.0 KBKF) has been added on that feed.
  • 20210321 – RF 19 (KSTS) has been added to the Fremont feed.
  • 20210321 00:30 – 02:00 – Maintenance – hardware upgrade.
  • 20200728 – RF 34 (KFSF, KDTV) has been added on the Sutro Tower feed.

  • 20200728 – RF 20 (KDTV,KTSF) monitoring has been discontinued due to poor reception.
  • 20200703 – RF 20 (KDTV, KTSF) has been added on the Fremont feed. RF 42 (KTLN) has been discontinued as KTLN is now operating on RF 22 and the RF 42 transmitter has been shut down. Historical data for RF 42 remains available.
  • 20200625 – The Internet-facing servers have been upgraded. Please report any issues with accessing SFBayATSC.
  • 20200410 – KKPXDT has been moved to an in-attic CM4228-HD to improve reception. All other Sutro/Mt. San Bruno channels remain on a rooftop CM4228-HD.
  • 20200315 – KKPXDT and KTVUDT are now monitored on their repack’d frequencies. Monitoring of RF 44 (pre-repack KTVUDT) and RF 41 (pre-repack KKPX) have been discontinued although historical data remains available. Note that KKPX reception is severely impaired at the monitor site on its repack’d RF 33 frequency. An auxiliary system in Santa Clara is showing the same. The following new channels are monitored in anticipation of Phase 9 stations lighting up: RF 13 (repack’d KNTV), RF 21 (repack’d KCNZ/KOFY/KMTP/KEMO), RF 22 (repack’d KTLN).
  • 20200208 18:00 – 00:30 – Maintenance – hardware upgrade.
  • 20200214 – The primary monitor has been placed back in service.
  • 20191116 – 20191124 – The primary monitor has been unstable due to an OS upgrade. Data for most channels has been populated from a backup system which has the same RF feed but may use different HDHomerun tuners (HDHR4 vs HDHR5). Statistics supplied by the tuner or demodulator, such as signal strength and symbol quality, may vary as a result.
  • 20190823 00:30 – 11:00 – System upgrade
  • 20190510 -12:00 PM – 11:00 PM – Due to networking issues which caused IP conflicts through much of SFBayATSC monitoring was unavailable during this period.
  • 201811011 02:00 – 05:45 – System upgrade
  • 20181002 13:55 – 14:10 – Maintenance – System drive failure.
  • 20180930 07:50 – 13:50 – All monitors offline due to power outage.
  • 20180811 23:05 – Software update
  • 20180721 00:30 – Temporarily add RF 28 (KOFY, CRTV, KMTP, KEMO)
